I had an awful experience with Psychiatry UK. I then made a lengthy complaint to give them the chance to resolve it and have been fobbed off. Would highly recommend seeking help elsewhere.
overall I had a pretty poor experience. the whole assessment experience for me felt extremely degrading, being constantly asked why after everything I said and making me doubt myself. They also interrupted me throughout my assessment and asking me questions which if they gave me time to answer in the first place I would have said. It was very overwhelming for me and it didn't feel validating at all in fact I came away feeling so much worse despite now having the diagnosis.
There were a lot of strange inefficiencies in the system that made it frustrating to work with. I need to order my prescriptions manually every four weeks, at least a week in advance, with no kind of alert or warning to prompt me to do it.
I had to fill out feedback forms every week, and request to be given more of said feedback forms every few weeks, or else risk having my treatment terminated. This process wasn’t explained very well to me and caused a lot of stress when I first started treatment.
There’s no reason these processes can’t be automated on an online system. I’d at least appreciate some kind prompt over email, but it doesn’t seem like psych uk has any system set up for this.
I was assessed by a lovely doctor who diagnosed me with inattentive adhd. This is the validation i needed and first step towards learning to manage my condition. Something that should have happened as a child. Psychiatry uk are amazing for giving me this.
Excellent Psychiatrist and Nurse. Backlog is down to government funding so nothing they can do until we all rally round our NHS and get them their funding back!
Really helpful explaining each process and going through any questions I had. Helped talk through all the options at each stage in the titration as well.
Thank you for changing my life :)
I had two appointments, in the first appointment I felt the doctor was very dismissive and did not seem to believe that I had ADHD. I had to have a second appointment after my parents had filled out the informant report (as the doctor said my sibling was not allowed to fill it out despite the form saying siblings could). The second appointment lasted less than 10 minutes and I was immediately told I have ADHD. I was then told I can receive medication in 6-8 months, but was not advised at all on how to cope and manage with ADHD in the meantime. Also no asking how I was coping already ect.. The service felt rushed and 'tick boxing', it did not feel as though the assessment was anything more than the doctor just reading my parents notes and believing them, despite not having listened to me.
I feel a follow up appointment or for me to able to send and email would be useful as while I didn't get the diagnosis I expected my mind went blank and thought of things after the appointment that I could have discussed
There was some significant waiting time which could be quite frustrating but it's because they deliver professional care to clients/patients and it does require time.
Psychiatry-UK was awarded the iWantGreatCare certificate of excellence in 2024 for delivering outstanding care.
